Opening up about Crohn’s disease

It’s very hard for Crohn’s disease patients to come out to their friends and family. They prefer to stay behind their bathroom doors, missing out on life. Kelly hid her illness from her family for 30 years.

Janssen Biotech and Stelara invited the Crohn’s disease community to speak out and channel their pain into art and awareness. We brought together two people to tell their stories of living with Crohn’s. Each illustration is imagined by one and drawn by the other.

Josh and karen never met, but they both telepathically share the same image of the monter inside them.

My role: Senior art director on the Janssen account. My partner and I came up with the idea and worked on crafting the art direction. After searching for the patient-artists and selecting them, we collaborated on crafting their visual interpretations into storyboards. We then worked with an animation house to turn the art into animated online videos.
